Catastrophic flash flooding and landslides struck northern Nepal and the Nepal and Tibet border region, devastating communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridor. Homes, bridges, schools, churches and roads have been destroyed, leaving families in urgent need of shelter, food and hope. Ghangri Church has established a Relief and Rehabilitation Fund, and our leaders and members are serving affected families directly, including in the hard to reach Himalayan villages where our churches are rooted.
Our teams provided the first wave of immediate relief materials to families displaced by the flooding: cooking materials such as pots and pressure cookers, utensils, water buckets and jugs, and hygiene items. Supplies were packed at the church in Kathmandu, loaded onto trucks and handed to each family in the affected communities.
The leadership of Ghangri Church has prayerfully decided to establish a Relief and Rehabilitation Fund to support affected families and communities. As an initial contribution, our church leadership has committed funds from the church account toward this relief effort, and church members are contributing according to their ability.
Our leaders are in contact with home fellowships and village churches in the Arun and Bhote Koshi corridors to confirm who is safe, what has been lost, and what is most urgently needed: shelter materials, food and clean water.
